The Original Song

A friend of mine pushed some KPop my way via a number of YouTube videos. The original version of this song was not one of them but I don’t think I’d come across it without that initial spark.

As you may or may not know, Jessica is my favourite member of my favourite KPop girl group, 소녀시대, or So Nyeo Shi Dae, or soshi, or SNSD, or Girls’ Generation. I don’t remember what exactly I was searching for but I found the original of this song from a live perf the two, Jessica and Park Myeong Soo, did during an award show (see right). I’m not very deep into Korean entertainment outside of the girl groups (and even still I’m not that deep into them other than listening to their music) so my initial thoughts to the video were “this is fkn adorable” and “who the hell is that guy and why is he laughing mid perf?” What I can gather is that Park Myeong Soo is a comedian / tv personality? and the two (along with other unlikely duets/groups) were part of a challenge for a music variety show and this song is the end result of it. It’s not that I can’t be bothered about the history of the song and how it came to be, it’s just other than piecing together the clips I’ve seen, I don’t know where else to get information on it.

This is what the finished product looks like.

Anyway, I wanted to speed up the song after playing the ITG chart I made for it (not released) with the 1.4x rate mod (accelerates the tempo of the song) making it 180 BPM (which coincidentally is the BPM of the remix). The song is a fairly standard Happy Hardcore track: heavy kicks, alternating hats, claps, snare rolls, and reverse crash cymbals galore. I always start with the kick-hat-snare combo as my first step to making a remix. Secondly, I pick up the bassline and melodies by ear. I always start songs using the 3x Oscillator to make the inital bass and synth sounds. After that, I pick and choose other synth instruments to fill the rest of the sound space as necessary. Next comes the kick and snare rolls and crash cymbals. Lastly, I finish trying to fill in the rest of the sound space with filters and synth flourishes, etc.

Give it a download!
