The PVotY (or Promotional Video of the Year) category is a series of PV reviews that have been nominated for my PVotY award. At the end of the year, I’ll review if my opinion on them has changed and decide which PV was the best.

Some of you probably think I’m joking for putting this up for nomination for PV of the Year. I’ve only read a few reviews for the song from our little corner of the blogosphere and all of them didn’t find this song entertaining at all. My feelings for this song are quite the contrary. From when I first watched the PV, I knew that it was something kinda special. While there are no elaborate sets or crazy special effects or heart-wrenching story (though I may be wrong since I haven’t seen the translation for the side story on the DVD yet), it really captures everything I find to be vital to a PV.
It’s got cute girls
I don’t know about you but I can’t not see the loliWatarirouka Hashiritai girls on the “most adorable of AKB48″ list. I don’t feel like I have to defend myself with this statement. I will say that Ayarin has a few odd camera angles / lighting arrangements that make her seem older than she is. Doesn’t really matter; most videos and pictures don’t do her justice anyway (not that I’ve seen her live or anything but… ok, maybe I’m just embellishing a few things. NGL tho and say I absolutely adore this picture of her. She’s on the right for the untrained eye. Harugon (looking kinda o__O) is on the left.)
It’s got a huge group dance
What’s there not to love about a gymnasium full of students doing a synchronized group dance? Think about other songs that have followed the group dance pattern:
- Michael Jackson’s Thriller
- Hare Hare Yukai from the first season of Haruhi
- Girls Generation’s HaHaHa
The list goes on. Also, look at all of the extras in this PV. They probably didn’t get paid to be in it since they’d be to busy going “OMGOMGOMG IT’S WATARIROUKA HASHIRITAI IN MY SCHOOL!!!” to care.

@Kim: I’m guessing you’ve read the translation… if not, I think it’s kinda cute :3
I’m not quite sure what kind of a word akkanbe is (verb, noun, etc) but I’ve always attached it to the Japanese version of Blowing a Raspberry. The only difference from a regular raspberry is the added eye pull-down.
In other words, it’s similar to how when one person likes another and decides to make fun of them to prevent others from thinking that they do.
